"How the excitement comes upon me to tell it all! In the quest of writing, the heart can speed up with anticipation--as it does, indeed, during the chase itself of whales. I can swear it, having done both, and I will tell you though other writers may not. My heart is beating fast; I am in pursuit; I want my victory--that you should see and hear and above all feel the reality behind these words." Ahab's Wife p.147
To be nobody-but-yourself--in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else--means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. --e e cummingsNovelists . . . have, on the average, about the same IQs as the cosmetic consultants at the Bloomingdale's department store. We have discovered that writing allows even a stupid person to seem halfway intelligent, if only that person will write the same thought over and over again, improving it just a little bit each time. It is a lot like inflating a blimp with a bicycle pump. Anybody can do it. All it takes is time. --Kurt Vonnegut

Dear Becca,
I was saving the best (your) happy note for last, except I ran out of paper upon which to write. Feeling completely inadequate as a friend, I thought I would drop you a note here and say that I appreciate your friendship and all you do for the ward. Have an excellent week.
